Partnering with professionals and families to advocate for health care
services that are family-centered, community-based, comprehensive, coordinated
and culturally competent. Family Voices of Mississippi
has developed and opened a Resource Library for children/youth with special
health care needs and their parents through the funding from the
Children’s Medical Program under MS Department of Health. The Resource
Library is located at 754 North President Street in Jackson, Mississippi.
Family Voices of Mississippi helps to ensure that children and youth with
special health care needs and their families have up to date and valuable
information needed to live healthy in Mississippi.

The purpose of Living Independence For Everyone is to empower people with
significant disabilities to be as independent and as fully involved in
their communities as they can and want to be. The primary goal of LIFE
is to assist in the independent living empowerment of people with significant
disabilities by:
- Providing or coordinating the provision of devices, equipment, aids,
modifications, or other services or forms of support that improve their
capacity to live independently.
- Supplying information and referral services to allow sufficient access
and utilization of available assistance.
- Furnishing peer counseling and guidance, encourage, establish, and
maintain independent living attitudes and philosophies.
- Rendering advocacy support on and individual or systems-wide basis.
- Providing skills training instruction to improve specific independent
living abilities and competencies.
- Contributing any other help that aids people with significant disabilities
in acquiring, retaining, or enhancing their capacity to live independently

Parent Partners is the parent training and information center for the
state of Mississippi. They provide education for parents of children with
disabilities on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

This guide is written for families raising children with mental retardation
