The
Pediatricians Title V CSHCN Institute
The Pediatricians Title V CSHCN Institute trains
approximately 30 selected pediatricians each year about
the Title V program for children with special health
care needs (CSHCN). The goal of the Institute is to interest
pediatricians in becoming directly involved in the Title
V CSHCN program in their home state and provide them
with practical information on how to do so. Participants
will also learn how to better advocate and care for children
with special needs in their community.
Each year pediatricians that need to learn about their
State Title V CSHCN Program and/or those interested in
taking on a more active role if given background information,
particularly in regard to legislation and communication
are solicited to attend. Travel, lodging, meals, and
registration expenses are covered for the selected pediatricians.
Under the leadership of Antoinette P. Eaton, MD, the
first "The Power of the Pediatrician" Institute
was held in June 1992. Due to the tremendous success
of this Institute and to the Maternal and Child Health
Bureaus commitment to strengthen and maintain leadership
capabilities for key policy-making staff in state CSHCN
programs, the Institute has become a regular offering.
The Pediatricians Institute is sponsored by the
American Academy of Pediatrics and funding for the Institute
is made possible by the US Federal Maternal and Child
Health Bureau.
The last Institute was held in Chicago, IL on May
17-18, 2003. For additional information on Title V, you can access AMCHP's manual for the next generation of Title V leaders which provides an overview of the Title V block grant history, administrative know-how and tips for success from MCH leaders.
